He was watching my latest batch bubble and said, 'It looks like something you'd find under a high school lab table.' I realized I'd been so focused on the process I forgot how strange it looks to someone who doesn't ferment. What's the weirdest thing a friend has said about your setup?

Oh man, that's so real. My partner still flinches when I burp my kimchi jars, says it sounds like a swamp monster waking up. People just don't get the whole bubbling, living food thing until they see it up close. It's totally a mad science vibe and I'm fine with that label. Honestly, the weird looks are part of the fun now.

Science experiment gone wrong" is perfect, my wife calls my sourdough starter jar "the lab accident." She won't go near the counter when I'm feeding it. Guess we're all mad scientists in the kitchen.
